Certification of CO2 Performance Ladder
COPRO is taking the necessary preparations to act as a certification body for the CO2 Performance Ladder according to the CO2 Performance Ladder Manual of the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (SKAO).
The CO2 Performance Ladder is a CO2 management system that encourages companies to reduce CO2 in a structural way, within their business operations as well as in projects and in the supply chain. It is used in the Netherlands as a procurement instrument and for enforcement.
More than 950 CO2-aware certificates have already been issued in the Netherlands and the CO2 Performance Ladder has led to 1.5% extra CO2 reductions per year for the participating companies.
The CO2 Performance Ladder consists of 5 levels, ascending from 1 to 5. In order to achieve a certain level, the company and its projects have to meet the set requirements. These requirements per level stem from 4 perspectives insight, reduction, transparency and participation and are included in the Handbook CO2 Performance Ladder.
The position of the company on this ladder is determined by the highest level at which the company meets all requirements. The level achieved partly determines the award advantage in the tendering process.
As a result of the success story of the CO2 Performance Ladder, the Netherlands decided in 2019 to test the CO2 Performance Ladder until 2022 in about twenty major public contracts in the construction sector. Companies that reduce their CO2 emissions will have a greater chance of winning public contracts in the future.
COPRO is the first Belgian certification body that can assist Belgian companies in this process.
